Satellite imagery: The worst fires were in Kinglake and Marysville. The town of Marysville was practically wiped off the map.
The devastating bushfires in the state of Victoria are the worse in history in terms of number of lives lost, killing at least 181 people so far. We are thankfully not affected directly by the blazes. The biggest fires are at least 50km away from Melbourne, but we can smell the smoke and see the haze (see picture above taken from the Melbourne Zoo looking back into the city). Our hearts and prayers go out to all the survivors who have lost family, friends and their homes. If anyone is interested in helping, donations can be made through the Australian Red Cross.
