Victoria bushfires

Satellite imagery:  The worst fires were in Kinglake and Marysville. The town of Marysville was practically wiped off the map.

The devastating bushfires in the state of Victoria are the worse in history in terms of number of lives lost, killing at least 181 people so far.  We are thankfully not affected directly by the blazes.  The biggest fires are at least 50km away from Melbourne, but we can smell the smoke and see the haze (see picture above taken from the Melbourne Zoo looking back into the city).  Our hearts and prayers go out to all the survivors who have lost family, friends and their homes.  If anyone is interested in helping, donations can be made through the Australian Red Cross.  For more information, see ABC News.

Kennett River koala

This koala was practically at our doorstep.  We followed him out and filmed him doing something we didn't expect.  Check it out!

Kennett River weekend #2

Kangaroos on the golf course.
Parrots at the skate board park.
Kangaroo in our front yard (bottom left).
Glenn getting in the mix.
A day at the beach with what Ben calls our "Super Hero Suits".
BBQ in Paradise.

This Koala was in our backyard.  We followed it to the trees and were able to get really close.

Kookaburras lining up for breakfast served to them by the local milk bar owner.
Cockatoo
We had a lot of fun feeding and watching the Cockatoos.

This Huntsman spider was found in the bedsheets by Lucille who carefully put it outside.

They need to come up with another sign for those of us who forget to stay in the left lane when turning.  On our way back home, stupid me, turned right to go into a Subway parking lot for lunch, and ended up in the right hand lane having crossed two lanes of oncoming traffic- luckily they were all stopped on a red light- oops!!!
